GREG LAWSON & PHIL ALEXANDER
GREG LAWSON & PHIL ALEXANDER

MUSIC FOR A LATE SUMMER AFTERNOON.

CLASSICS AND TANGO FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO. OR ACCORDION.

They know each other … well, a long time. And that means only one thing: they come, take their instruments, look at each other and can start playing. Almost anything; or as we say here, from Bach to Debussy. And on top of that, Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, tangos by Astor Piazzolla and maybe a few of their own compositions on top. In short, the ideal concert for a late summer afternoon.
We admire the versatility of violinist and conductor Greg Lawson: the Royal Scottish Orchestra and a number of chamber classical ensembles could not do without him, but jazzmen and British folk musicians also relied on him, and we remember well the stir he caused with the Grit Orchestra, in which he performed with students from the Edinburgh School of Music the compositions of the prematurely deceased Scottish electro-folk musician Martyn Bennett. They perform often in pairs with Phil Alexander, and lately they like best with the Lev’s Violin program, supported by a wonderful story. But that will come next time, now they mainly want to make our moments more pleasant and allow us to gain strength before the final performance by Seckou Keita, because they know very well that we will need them.
