A LARGE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA AS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE PROGRAM

CONTINUING A DREAM HAS GREAT POWER.

The orchestra was not founded years ago with the intention of impressing parents, grandparents, friends and visitors. Jitka Šuranská simply had the idea of giving amateur musicians, beginners, enthusiasts and talented children a chance to play together under the baton of professionals and enjoy it, regardless of how many notes fall under the table at the concert. The priority was joy, the desire to learn something and the good feeling of the opportunity to stand on the same stage as the festival stars. From the first performance it became clear that nothing would end there and in the following years the orchestra gradually became one of the most rewarding parts of the program. With their growing experience, German fiddlers Vivien Zeller and Ursula Suchanek, along with mandolinist Martin Krajíček, have also dared to take on an increasingly demanding repertoire, and the regular guest appearances of foreign musicians have become a great challenge for everyone. This year, the British trio Triptic will join the orchestra, in other words three world-famous instrumentalists: violinist Greg Lawson, pianist Phil Alexander and double bassist Mario Caribé. It is therefore clear that the Folk Holidays Orchestra is entering a new era.
