MUSICA DA RIPOSTIGLIO (ITALY)
GYPSY POP BALKAN SWING WITH A TUSCAN FLAVOR AND ITALIAN SONGS ON TOP
EXTREMELY ELEGANT ITALIAN DANCE PARTY.
They come from Tuscany, call themselves Musica da Ripostiglio (Music from the Closet) and they like to watch people have the same fun as they do with music that is somewhere between a concert and a retro cabaret. For twenty years, singer Luca Pirozzi, guitarist Luca Giacomelli, double bassist Raffaele Toninelli and drummer Emanuele Pellegrini have been searching for the intersection between Italian popular songs, gypsy swing, French chanson, tango, Mediterranean dance repertoire and, in fact, anything that jumps out of the closet at them. But their originality doesn't end there.
Imagine coming to the theatre, looking forward to enjoying an evening with big stars, and then a band walks on stage, whose only job is to accompany the story, and instead of watching the actors, you stare at the musicians and pray that there will be even more scenes with them. And you know what's the most fun about it? That it is exactly according to the directors' and the actors' ideas. That is why the best theatre people in Italy sometimes almost fight over the Musica da Ripostiglio quartet. The Tuscans are such good musicians and actors and showmen, not just a background band; although, admittedly, an excellent one. And because they are so dedicated to theatre, it is natural for them to include a lot of gags and sketches in their concerts. Simply top musicians who have theatre under their skin. Someone might get the impression that they cannot do without it, but that is not the case: Musica da Ripostiglio release successful albums and perform concerts all over Europe for, as they themselves say, audiences of all categories, expecting a fresh and extremely elegant Italian dance party.
